The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office has officially welcomed the newest member of its K9 unit during a swearing-in ceremony at Sheriff’s headquarters on Parr Boulevard.

August 9, 2016, Sheriff Chuck Allen administered the K9 Oath of Office to Titus, a year-and-a-half old Czechoslovakian Shepherd. He just recently completed his Nevada P.O.S.T. certification. The Sheriff’s Office acquired Titus thanks to a donation from an anonymous citizen.

Titus was born in Slovakia, Czech Republic and trained at the Vohne Liche Kennels in Denver, Indiana. He specializes in narcotic detection and is also trained for patrol, evidence recovery, and tracking.

Part of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office K9 Oath states that the canine swears to “uphold the high principles of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit and that duty and loyalty to their mission shall not be distracted by birds, raw meat, naps, and at-large tennis balls.” The Sheriff's Office says that "may prove a challenge for Titus, who is always on the lookout for a ball to play with."

Titus’ partner, Deputy Ned Nemeth, says Titus loves being a law enforcement K9 most of all.

“Titus is excited to go to work,” Deputy Nemeth said. “We both look forward to serving our community and facing future challenges as part of the outstanding Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit.”

Titus’ primary assignments will be patrol and narcotic detection. Deputy Nemeth and Titus also will participate in community events, school visits and other outreach efforts.
